How to Compare Water Treatment Companies
There are several reputable water treatment companies across Toronto and the GTA. We won't pretend we're the only option. What we will do is share the six essential questions every homeowner should ask — so you can hold anyone, including us, to the highest standard.
The 6 Questions
Our Answers — and What to Ask Anyone Else
Save or print this guide. We'd genuinely rather you bought a quality system from another reputable company than an overpriced, sub-par system from a high-pressure pitch.
Can you give me a clear price over the phone or online before visiting?
Yes, always. A quick 2-minute phone call or online inquiry is enough to give you a complete, flat-rate installed price. If your home has unique plumbing or well water needs that genuinely require an in-person look, we'll tell you upfront rather than forcing a mandatory sales visit.
Ask for an exact price or estimate before booking any appointment. A company that refuses to discuss pricing over the phone and insists on an in-person meeting is usually preparing you for a long, high-pressure sales presentation.
How long is the in-home water test or consultation?
Our free water report takes about 15 minutes at your kitchen tap. We test your water hardness and TDS, show you the exact numbers, explain what they mean, and provide a straight recommendation with zero sales pressure.
Ask how much time to set aside. If they ask for 2 to 3 hours and insist that all decision-makers be present, that is a high-pressure sales process, not a simple water test.
What grain capacity am I being quoted, and why that specific size?
Our standard single mixed media tank holds a whopping 48,000 grains of softening resin and our single XL tank and dual-tank systems hold 60,000+ grains! We tailor tank sized based on your exact GPG (grains per gallon) hardness test result and household occupant count.
Ask for the exact grain capacity rating and the technical calculation behind it. 'It's our standard signature system' is not a technical specification. Note: salt-free conditioners do not have grain capacity because they don't remove hardness minerals — anyone quoting grain capacity on salt-free equipment is misleading you.
What are the exact components and media inside the tank?
We use high-capacity 10% crosslinked softening resin (engineered specifically for chlorinated Ontario municipal water), high-purity coconut shell activated carbon, and digital metered control valves with non-volatile memory backup.
Ask for the exact resin crosslink percentage, carbon mesh grade, and valve manufacturer by name. A custom brand sticker slapped on a plastic tank shroud is not a component list.
What does the warranty cover part-by-part, including labor?
Lifetime warranty on tanks and dry parts, 5 years on control valves and filtration media, and 1 full year on professional installation labor. Our complete warranty terms are published directly on our website.
Ask for an itemized warranty statement in writing. Specifically ask whether labor and service call fees are included and for how long. Many 'lifetime warranties' cover cheap replacement plastic parts while charging $150+ trip fees per service call from day one.
What will this system cost me per year after year one?
Just standard water softener salt for brine tanks, and annual filter replacements for RO drinking systems. We give you exact yearly operating costs upfront before you sign anything.
Ask for annual filter replacement costs, proprietary filter cartridge lock-in pricing, and whether mandatory service maintenance contracts are required. High recurring filter costs often quietly double the true cost of ownership over 10 years.

Industry Red Flags
The Industry's Worst Habits, Named
If you see any of these tactics during a consultation, it isn't just a pushy representative — it is how that company's sales model is designed.
The 'Sign Tonight' Discount
A price that drops by thousands of dollars simply because you hesitate or promise to sign before the salesperson leaves was never the real price. Honest, flat-rate pricing doesn't depend on high-pressure urgency tactics.
Scare-Tactic Water Precipitation Demos
Chemical precipitation tests where tap water turns dark or murky in a glass cylinder show harmless dissolved calcium and magnesium — normal hard water minerals — not toxic chemicals. It is sales theatre designed to scare you into buying.
Vague 'Lifetime Warranties' with Fine Print
A 'lifetime warranty' without a clear published component schedule usually leaves you paying expensive technician labor rates, diagnostic fees, and shipping costs every time a part breaks.
Quoting Monthly Payments Instead of Total Price
Focusing exclusively on '$49/month' hides high interest rates, long loan terms, and high total interest payments. Always ask for the complete cash price alongside any financing terms.
